Holistic learning is all about nurturing the whole child.

It recognises that children’s learning, emotions, relationships, physical development, creativity and sense of belonging are all connected. A child learns through playing, exploring, wondering, creating, moving, talking, making friends, taking risks and feeling safe and loved.

Holistic learning is so much more than learning the letters of the alphabet and our numbers. It’s about discovering who you are, learning how to be with others, exploring the world, building confidence, getting messy, asking questions, creating, moving, laughing and feeling that you belong. Holistic learning means nurturing every little part of a child as they grow.

Genuine relationships and real connections sit at the heart of everything we do here – it’s not a value we mention, it’s the value everything else is built on.

Our aim is a pretty simple one, to create a dream place for children that’s warm, friendly, safe and nurturing, paired with learning experiences that stimulate and challenge each child’s own strengths, needs and interests. A respectful, working partnership between Sunshine Mini School and home matters deeply to us, because it’s what truly benefits our little ones.

At Sunshine Mini School, we aim to give every child a well-rounded early education, one that helps them understand not just the world around them, but their own place within it. That’s what we mean when we talk about the Sunshine way.

Our Learning Rooms: 6 Weeks to School Age

At Sunshine Mini School in Tingalpa, we welcome children from 6 weeks right through to school age, across five learning rooms. Each room has its own rhythm, shaped around what children actually need at that age.

What stays the same in every room is the Sunshine way: we care about who our children are becoming, not just what they can do. That means real relationships, room to feel things and work them out, the confidence to try, and the beginnings of knowing how to be a good friend. We think children learn better when they’re genuinely interested, so that’s what we build toward, in every room, every day.

Snugglepots (0–1 years)

This is the closest thing to home we can create outside of it. Every baby has their own routine, followed closely because at this age, consistency is comfort. There’s a lot of love and cuddles in the Snugglepots. There’s music, movement, textures to discover, and plenty of time outdoors – all helping those first big motor skills take shape, one wobble and reach at a time.

Cuddlepies (15 months – 2 years)

Our Cuddlepies are on the move, and we’re right there with them. This room is about exploring the world around them. Friendships are just beginning here, in their own gorgeous way, and our fabulous playground is a central place for all of this development.

Our Bumblebees room provides a warm, steady space where children feel safe enough to try things out, a new word, a new friendship, a small negotiation over a toy. We’re there to guide, giving each child room to explore through play while knowing we’re close by. We focus on building positive relationships and friendships, language, independence and negotiation techniques. We want our little ones to feel supported while exploring through play. Every child has endless opportunities to learn and grow in here, and we love helping to answer as many “why?” questions as our little Bumblebees have for us.

Our Dragonflies focus on creating a life-long love of learning through experimentation and exploration.

We promote the social, intellectual and physical growth of each child. We strive to create an environment that enhances a child’s self-image, self-direction, and self-motivation.

We want all of our Dragonflies to thrive. We expose them to as many learning experiences as possible. We encourage them to develop their independence and to help out in any way possible. We create a sense of responsibility with all our Dragonflies.

We encourage children’s literacy skills through oral language experiences for children to achieve self-confidence when talking in front of different size groups. So much fun to be had when you’re 3 turning 4!

What an exciting room this is!

Our Kindergarten Program, based on the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline developed by the QCAA, embraces the inclusive vision that “all children experience learning that is engaging and builds success for life”.

Our program focuses on enriching each child’s life and most importantly concentrating on the skills that our children will need to start Prep. We are incredibly passionate about our Kindergarten Program and equipping our children with as many skills as possible for their journey into big school.

Our Bears are supported in developing letter and number recognition, science and maths concepts and social and emotional competence in this year prior to school. A very important focus for us will be ensuring our children are socially and emotionally ready to start school and know how to form and maintain friendships.

Throughout each day this age group will be Busy Bears, Beautiful Bears, Brave Bears and Brilliant Bears.

Our little ones will participate in Acknowledgement of Country, daily yoga and daily meditation, daily exercise and daily self-regulation techniques. This will be a beautiful way to start each day to settle in comfortably and calmly.

If you would like your child to join Sunshine Mini School, please fill out the form below and one of our Sunshine Mini School team will be in contact to discuss enrolment. We look forward to hearing from you.
